Nol J. de Souza Abbreviated C.V. Nol J. de Souza was educated at the Bombay University (Ph.D., Organic Chemistry) with postdoctoral associateships at Drexel Institute of Technology, Philadelphia, U.S.A. and the University of Liverpool, England. He is also an alumnus of the International Management Institute, Geneva, Switzerland. His areas of specialization are pharmaceutical research and development, and intellectual property, with research, teaching and consulting interest in drug discovery and development, effective management of research centres, novel bioactive natural products and synthetic molecules in a variety of therapeutic areas, and patent productivity. Dr. de Souza retired in 1992, after 22 years of service with the erstwhile Hoechst Pharmaceuticals Research Centre, as Head of Discovery Chemistry and Drug Development. Since then, he held an Emeritus Scientist appointment at the University Department of Chemical Technology, Bombay and was Director, R&D, first at Sun Pharmaceuticals Limited Research Centre (1994-1997) and then at Wockhardt Limited Research Center (1997-2004). Dr. de Souza currently operates as a Consultant in Pharmaceutical R&D and Intellectual Property. He is also Adjunct Professor, Pharmaceutical Sciences & Technology at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, where he conducts research and teaches, interacting in the postgraduate programmes of Chemistry, Chemical Technology and Pharmaceutical Sciences, particularly Medicinal Chemistry and Intellectual Property, and is Advisor on Intellectual Property Policy and Chemical Technology Business Incubators. Recently, through his efforts, a grant has been awarded by the AICTE to set up an Entrepreneurship Development Cell at the now autonomous Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (formerly UDCT). He has recently been designated Official OSEC Expert (OOE) in the OSEC Business Network, Zurich, Switzerland and the Swiss Business Hub, Consulate General of Switzerland, Mumbai, India, as well as the InTota Expert Network, USA. He has also been recently selected as Member, IUPAC Division VII, Chemistry & Human Health Sub-Committee on Medicinal Chemistry & Drug Development for 2008 2010. In October 2009, he was Chairman of a One-day Conference on Corporate Governance. Dr. de Souza has authored around 100 publications in reputed international scientific journals and has delivered lectures in several national / international forums. He is named as inventor on about 200 patents. He continues to guide the discovery and destiny of several drug molecules, some of which have been successfully launched in the market, and others have attracted high international interest and acclamation for their unique mechanism of drug action, in particular the molecules named FORSKOLIN and ALVOCIDIB.
